Description: Emtricitabine S-oxide (also called Emtricitabine Degradant-III; Emtricitabine sulfoxide) is a degradation product (S-oxidized impurity) of Emtricitabine (BW-1592; FTC; BW1592; Emtriva; Coviracil; Racivir), which is a potent nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that has been approved for the treatment of both human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus.

ProtocolIn VitroEmtricitabine, an antiretroviral agent is used to evaluate degradation pathways under different stress conditions in order to identify degradation products as prescribed by ICH guidelines. Emtricitabine degrades over 51%, 13% and 53% during acid, base and oxidative degradation respectively followed by formation of three major degradation products (Degradant-I to Degradant-III).
These protocols are for reference only. InvivoChem does not independently validate these methods.

Method for preparing DMSO master liquid: mg drug pre-dissolved in µL DMSO(Master liquid concentration mg/mL) ,Please contact us first if the concentration exceeds the DMSO solubility of the batch of drug.
Method for preparing in vivo formulation: Take µL DMSO master liquid, next add µL PEG300, mix and clarify, next add µL Tween 80,mix and clarify, next add µL ddH2O,mix and clarify.
Note:
  • (1) Please be sure that the solution is clear before the addition of next solvent. Dissolution methods like vortex, ultrasound or warming and heat may be used to aid dissolving.
  • (2) Be sure to add the solvent(s) in order.
