Description: A 201A is an aminonucleoside antibiotic that is isolated from Streptomyces capreolus. A201A has a unique nucleoside structure with potent antibacterial activities. It is composed of 6-dimethylaminopurine, 3-amino-3-deoxyribose, p-hydroxy-alpha-methylcinnamic acid, a novel unsaturated hexofuranose and 3,4-di-O-methylrhamnose. A201A is inactivated by a phosphotransferase activity from Streptomyces capreolus NRRL 3817, the producing organism. Isolation and molecular characterization of the relevant encoding gene and its DNA flanking regions.
