Description: Teduglutide Acetate (Gattex; Revestive) is a polypeptide composed of 33-amino acids. It is a glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2) analog that has been approved as an orphan drug for use in the treatment of SBS-short bowel syndrome. Teduglutide works by promoting mucosal growth and possibly restoring gastric emptying and secretion. Teduglutide differs from naturally occurring GLP-2 by a single amino acid: an alanine replaced by a glycine, which blocks breaking down of the molecule by dipeptidyl peptidase and increases the half-life from 7 minutes (GLP-2) to about 2 hours, while retaining its biological activity.
