Description: Serlopitant (also known as VPD-737 and MK-0594) is a novel, potent and selective antagonist of Neurokinin-1 (NK-1) receptor which is being evuluated in clinical trials for the treatment of urinary incontinence and overactive bladder, while it was superior to placebo it provided no advantage over existing drugs, and the further development was discontinued. The substance P/neurokinin 1 receptor pathway is critical in chronic pruritus; anecdotal evidence suggests that antagonism of this pathway can reduce chronic itch.
